Mom sent me an email asking. Instead of just replying back to her I’ll just answer it here.
No.
In fact there are very few people of any ethnicity other than Japanese here. Even the tourist all seem to be Japanese. I’ve seen a few non asian folks touring around but i haven’t seen one…wait, i did see a black couple when i got off the train in Kyoto.
Today i sat outside Starbucks for about an hour at a pretty busy intersection and only noticed 4 non asians and two of those were a JET employee and his father.

Wow…I have been looking at your blog all morning. I need to get back to work. The photos are fantastic! And, thanks for answering the question above…I’ve always wondered that too, haha.
That’s funny. I got asked the same question by coworkers when I returned from Paris over the summer.
Hopefully that will change once you get to Tokyo. I have a friend that DJ’s in Osaka. From what he told me, there is a good mix of ethnicity where he live and a solid appreciation of hip hop, soul & funk.
btw-Diggin the photos.
Thanks for answering my question BK. Evidently it is the same as here, go twenty miles up the road and you don’t see any mixture of ethnic groups, i.e. Beavercreek. I ask because when I lived in Turkey we were a novelty, everyone wanted to feel Ebony’s and my natural hair, expecially on the bus. lol
