Blazey and I traveled down to Cincinnati to spend some time with our good friend Aileen’s parents this past weekend (Q is in Australia). Mom had a little birthday celebration for her brother Neal who died almost a year ago. A bunch of Neal and Aileen’s friends came out to eat up mom’s Filipino dishes and send off messages in balloons.
OH, so for the past 4 or 5 years (since the day i met Mrs Aquino) she’s tried to get me to eat pork. Well she finally succeeded with a little trickery. She told blazey and I that she made everything pork free for me this weekend. I start eating this amazing broccoli salad with turkey bacon and comment on how good it is and mention something about the bacon being turkey. She then says, “yeah, you don’t eat pork that’s why i told you it was turkey bacon”. But she told it so dry that i didn’t know if she was joking or not. I take a look at the fatty bacon on my plate and can’t help but start cracking up.

this is awesome! The balloon idea is really neat.
Wonderful pictures! I see joy on mom Q’s face to have Neal and Q’s friends celebrating his life.
Oh, and on the pork - I guess you had a lesson, some things are what the mind perceives…
on that note I looked for the “sacred camera” this morning and couldn’t find it..;material things…
Maybe you can tell that story on your blog one day.
Those photos are beautiful. You documented the occasion very well. What a great way to remember a friend.
I had no idea you didn’t eat pork…I bet Silvia sneaked into meals as well.
A little background about BK’s photography career - When BK was about 4-years-old I was unpacking groceries; I had left a can of Campbell’s pork-n-beans (this was when I ate pork) on the kitchen table along with my camera. He was hardly tall enough to reach the table. Playing with the camera B snapped a picture of the beans. The picture was absolutely perfect for an advertisement. The background faded out and the focus was on the can of beans, just as the picture of the balloons above. I still have that picture around here somewhere…
very nice brandon.
beautiful documentation.
where is that pic of the bacon.
we did the balloon thing for dikra.
This is so great - the celebration and the story on the launch of your career.
PS - yay for bacon!
Brandon–your photos are exquisite. I was honored to be included in the celebration.

I happened across this site because my name is also BK and I received a google alert. The google alert thought I was the BK here. But I am pleased about the error. These photos are really great. They have such emotion and movement in their apparent stillness. Really great work, Brandon. I’ll happen back here on occasion, I’m sure. Many thanks for the images on this page. I’m cranky today, away from home on work and wanting to be home, and your photos made me smile this morning.
i dont get it boo
